New Rail Connection to Central Asia
Baltic Container Terminal is pleased to announce the launch of a new direct rail connection linking BCT to key destinations in Central Asia. The service offers a reliable, cost-effective alternative to sea freight for cargo destined for Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and beyond.
Service Overview
The new block train service operates on a fixed weekly schedule, providing predictable transit times and reliable capacity for shippers moving containerised goods to and from Central Asia. Key route details:
- Destinations: Almaty (Kazakhstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and connecting points
- Frequency: Weekly departures (Monday)
- Transit time: 8–12 days depending on final destination
- Capacity: 40 TEU per departure, with options to increase subject to demand
Advantages for Cargo Owners
The direct rail connection offers significant advantages over conventional routing via other ports and intermediary hubs. Shippers benefit from a single customs transit procedure, reduced handling, competitive pricing and the reliability of BCT’s established rail infrastructure, including direct siding access within the terminal perimeter.
Intermodal Integration
The service is fully integrated with BCT’s existing ocean shipping connections, allowing seamless transshipment of containers arriving by sea to rail and vice versa. BCT’s IT systems provide real-time container tracking throughout the rail journey.
